Program Description

Description

The title for this month is Normal People by Sally Rooney.

At school Connell and Marianne pretend not to know each other. He’s popular and well-adjusted, star of the school soccer team while she is lonely, proud, and intensely private. But when Connell comes to pick his mother up from her house-keeping job at Marianne’s house, a strange and indelible connection grows be-tween the two teenagers - one they are determined to conceal .Sally Rooney brings her brilliant psychological acuity and perfectly spare prose to a story that explores the subtleties of class, the electricity of first love, and the complex entanglements of family and friendship

Critic’s Circle now meets in-person on the third Tuesday of the month (except December) at 7:00 pm for a discussion of new and classic titles. New readers are always welcome. This book discussion is led by Margaret Eustace.

Many of the book discussion titles can be downloaded via the Library's Hoopla or Overdrive services. Check for video instructions on using Hoopla. Print copies are available at the library for most book groups. Call 203-438-2282 about reserving books. Copies can also be purchased at Books on the Common at a 15% discount.
