Program Description

Description

The title for this month is The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka.

This story traces the lives of Japanese mail-order brides from their arduous journey by boat to their arrival in San Francisco and their tremulous first nights as new wives, to the back breaking work picking fruit and scrubbing floors of white women, to their struggles to master a new language and raise their own children who ultimately reject their heritage and history.

Join us for World Lit Now!, a book-discussion group focused on recently published, award-winning literature from around the globe. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am from January through November. Meetings take place via Zoom. New readers are always welcome! Barb Jennes, Ridgefield’s Poet Laureate, leads the group’s always-lively discussions. Please register below.
