The Overstory: a Novel by Richard Powers (502 pg., 2018). This paean to the secret life of trees unfolds in interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest as a handful of people learn to see that vast, slow, interconnected world largely invisible to the rest of us and are drawn up into its unfolding catastrophe. Winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.
