Description
The title for this month is The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story by Nikole Hannah-Jones.
Our national narrative is more accurately told if we begin in late August of 1619, when a ship arrived in Jamestown bearing a cargo of twenty to thirty enslaved people from Africa. Their arrival inaugurated a barbaric and unprecedented system of chattel slavery that would last for the next 250 years, placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are as a country
The Nonfictioneers book discussion group meets in-person with an option to participate via Zoom on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm (except December) to discuss contemporary non-fiction titles. New readers are always welcome. Please register below.
*You may also choose to attend the program online. Everyone who registers below will receive the Zoom link.
Many of the book discussion titles can be downloaded via the Library's Hoopla or Libby accounts. Check for video instructions on using Hoopla. Personal copies can also be purchased at Books on the Common at a 15% discount.
