Program Description

Description

The title for this month is The Imperial Cruise: a Secret History of Empire and War by James Bradley.

In 1905, President Teddy Roosevelt dispatched Secretary of War William Taft, his daughter Alice, and a gaggle of congressmen on a mission to Japan, the Philippines, China, and Korea with the intent of forging an agreement to divide up Asia. This clandestine pact lit the fuse that would-decades later-result in a number of devastating wars: WWII, the Korean War, and the communist revolution in China.

The Nonfictioneers book discussion group meets in-person with an option to participate via Zoom on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm (except December) to discuss contemporary non-fiction titles. New readers are always welcome. Please register below.

*You may also choose to attend the program online. Everyone who registers below will receive the Zoom link.

Many of the book discussion titles can be downloaded via the Library's Hoopla or Libby accounts. Check for video instructions on using Hoopla. Personal copies can also be purchased at Books on the Common at a 15% discount.

If you are participating by Zoom and have not received your Zoom link by the day before the program please contact the Adult Services Desk at 203.438.2282
