Join us for an evening of poetry, featuring readings by award-winning poets representing each of the state’s four corners, plus one from the central Hartford area.
Our special National Poetry Month reading features: CT State Poet Laureate Emerita Margaret Gibson, Charles Rafferty, Pegi Deitz Shea, poet-pathologist Srinivas Mandavilli, and Sandy Carlson, poet laureate of Woodbury.

MARGARET GIBSON, CT Poet Laureate Emerita (2019-2022), has published 13 books of poems, most recently The Glass Globe. The winners of numerous national awards, Gibson edited an anthology, Waking Up to the Earth: CT Poets in a Time of Global Climate Crisis.
CHARLES RAFFERTY—poet, short story writer, and novelist—has published 15 collections of poetry, most recently A Cluster of Noisy Planets. His poems are widely published, including in The New Yorker. Rafferty co-directs the MFA program at Albertus Magnus College.
PEGI DEITZ SHEA is a two-time winner of the CT Book Award. She has published more than 450 articles, essays, stories, and poems for adults and award-winning books for young readers. Her first book of poetry for adult readers, The Weight of Kindling, was published in 2022.
SRINIVAS MANDAVILLI is a Senior Attending Pathologist at Hartford Hospital where he also serves as a teaching doctor. Born in India, Srinivas’ pathology research is widely published and his poems have appeared in both consumer and medical journals.
SANDY CARLSON, poet laureate of Woodbury, hosts two podcasts: Woodbury Writes in collaboration with the town library and People and Their Poems to explore the work of CT poets. Her recent collection of sonnets, Mother Tongue, honors language and family.
