Join us online for a reading by notable poets representing each of the state’s four corners, plus one from the central Hartford area.
Our November reading features Carol Chaput, Sean Frederick Forbes, Tony Fusco, Joan Kantor, and Sharon Smith. Hosted and curated by Ridgefield Poet Laureate Emerita Barb Jennes, Poems from Connecticut’s Four Corners readings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00.
Carol Chaput won the 2020 Nutmeg Poetry Award from the Connecticut Poetry Society. Her poems are included in Waking Up to the Earth and the 2023 Connecticut Literary Anthology. She is an artist and long-time environmental and peace activist.
Sean Frederick Forbes is Director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Connecticut-Storrs and is a summer instructor for the Yale Young Writers Workshop. In 2017, he received first place in the Nutmeg Poetry Contest from the Connecticut Poetry Society.
Tony Fusco is the poet laureate of the City of West Haven and Past President of the Connecticut Poetry Society. He has published six books of poetry and three chapbooks. His poetry has won many accolades including The Sunken Garden Poetry Prize.
Joan Kantor’s poems appear in several poetry collections and in numerous journals. She won the 2013 Hackney Literary Award for Poetry and her collection Fading Into Focus took first place for poetry in the 2015 Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Contest.
Sharon Smith retired from a corporate career in 2005 and began teaching yoga. She notes that “poetry and yoga both enhance the pleasure of being alive on this planet.” Sharon published her first book of poetry, reflection, in 2022.
