Program Description

Description

The title for this month is Come Fly the World: The Jet Age Story of the Women of Pan Am by Julia Cooke, 2021

In 1966, Pan Am began flying thousands of military personnel out of Vietnam every month on “R&R shuttles”. Cooke follows the  careers of  a handful of Pan Am  stewardesses, culminating in their recruitment for Operation Babylift, a 1975 mission to evacuate thousands of  orphans, many of them the biracial children of U.S. servicemen, from South Vietnam before it fell to the communist regime.  Their globe-trotting adventures are steeped in the tumultuous politics of the Vietnam War era.

The Nonfictioneers book discussion group meets in-person with an option to participate via Zoom on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm (except December) to discuss contemporary non-fiction titles. New readers are always welcome. Please register below.

*You may also choose to attend the program online. Everyone who registers below will receive the Zoom link.

Many of the book discussion titles can be downloaded via the Library's Hoopla or Overdrive services. Check for video instructions on using Hoopla. Print copies are available at the library.
