Description
In 1860 Ulysses S. Grant was working as a clerk at a store in Galena, Illinois. A graduate of West Point and an officer in the Mexican-American war, he'd quit the army in 1854. Now he was working in his brother's store and selling firewood on the streets of St. Louis to make ends meet. Just three years later his victory at the Battle of Vicksburg would prove a turning point in the Civil War. Six years after that he was elected President of the United States.
Join us to discuss the fascinating life of Ulysses S. Grant. Our discussion is based on the book "Grant" by Ron Chernow. However anyone with an interest in Civil War-era America is encouraged to participate.
Please register below to receive the Zoom invitation link. If you are new to Zoom please plan to join the meeting 10 minutes before the session is due to start.
