Program Description

Description

CMYK Colors and Drawing Iridescence

This is a colored pencil drawing course for all levels.

The two main goals of this course are: 1. to introduce the CMYK color model (used in color printing), and 2. to show that drawing pearlescent objects is best achieved when using only these four CMYK pigments.

Iridescence is the phenomenon of certain surfaces appearing to change color as the angle of illumination changes (think soap bubbles, peacock feathers, mother-of-pearl shells, opals, scarab beetles). When drawing with colored pencils, this lustrous rainbow-like effect looks most realistic if CMYK [Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and the Key (black)] colors are used. We will cover the fundamentals of subtractive color theory, and learn how to mix / blend these four pigments to achieve any hue, value, tint and shade within the visible color spectrum.

Please register for the first class only, and you'll be considered signed up for all. The class meets 9/27, 10/4, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15.
