In-Person: Freehand Architectural Sketching and Architect's Hand-Lettering: A Six- Session Course

You don't have to be an architect to draw freehand building facades (or floor plans) of your favorite historic building, childhood home, or various architectural features such as belfries, period doorways, stone archways, stylistic Baroque or Colonial design elements, or Gothic tracery windows. These can be done in any medium, but we will work in graphite pencil to allow for shadows, pen and ink (or Micron markers), as well as in two-tone color linework. For anyone wishing to do so, soft color washes may be applied with brush-pen markers.

As part of this course, students will also learn the classic all-caps draftsman’s hand-lettered script, which was influenced by the Arts and Crafts period (think blueprints). The hand-lettering will add authenticity to your artwork. Finished drawings will be suitable for framing, or may be printed on personal note cards. Better yet, make your own series as a boxed set!

Masks are required for all individuals aged 2 and over entering the Library who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  Masks are required for all individuals aged 2 and over entering and using the Lodewick Children’s Library regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. Masks are optional for individuals entering the Library who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Masks must conform to current CDC recommendations.
