Program Description

Description

Two-Colored Drapery Studies in the Styles of Da Vinci, Durer, Boltraffio and Others
(Although this course may be for all drawing levels, intermediate skills with colored pencils are an advantage)

Learn the shading techniques of the masters! We will begin with drawings that emulate da Vinci's and Dürer's careful studies of drapery that capture light as it illuminates the flowing shapes and forms of the fabric. Working on tan or grey toned paper, students will first use a black colored pencil to layer shading, followed by white pencil to add highlights to the folds, which lend the drapery its 3-dimensionality. In following sessions, the class will expand to explore other combinations of paired or contrasting colors, each of which sets a different mood for the work of art.

Materials:
Pad of 9" X 12" Strathmore Artagain toned paper assorted colors, or similar.
Black colored pencil
White colored pencil
hand-held sharpener

This is a four-session class taking place on 7/21, 7/28, 8/4 and 8/18 (no 8/11). Register for the first one on 7/21 and you will be considered signed up for all four classes.
