Program Description

Description

COLORED PENCIL DRAWING with a focus on botanical drawing styles used in either nature journals or formal scientific reference illustrations. Students will be guided through creating their own works, which may include accurate pictorial depictions of plant details, birds, butterflies, etc. or any combinations thereof.

In this beginner to intermediate course, we will cover fundamental principles and techniques i.e. color basics, blending of two or more colors, value vs hue, layering, surface textures, shading, as well as linework and composition. Students will also learn design layout and how to choose optimal colors for different illustration styles.

Students who have them should bring their own colored pencil sets. Please register just once for the first class (Jan 14) and you will be considered registered for the entire course.
