Program Description

Description

The title for this month is About Time: A History of Civilization in Twelve Clocks by David Rooney

A history of timekeeping and how it has shaped our world from the city sundials of ancient Rome to the medieval water clocks of imperial China, to the hourglasses in the Middle Ages, to the Stock Exchange clock of Amsterdam in 1611, to the high precision clocks circling the Earth on a fleet of GPS satellites launched since 1978, About Time describes how time has been imagined and politicized over centuries and how it is truly a history of civilization.

The Nonfictioneers book discussion group meets in-person with an option to participate via Zoom on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm (except January) to discuss contemporary non-fiction titles. This book discussion is led by Barrett Jones, Adult Services Librarian. New readers are always welcome. Please register below.

*You may also choose to attend the program online. Everyone who registers below will receive the Zoom link.

Many of the book discussion titles can be downloaded via the Library's Hoopla or Overdrive services. Check for video instructions on using Hoopla. Print copies are available at the library.
