This two-part series serves as an introduction to the picturebook as visual literacy, art, and cultural fare. Often these seemingly simple stories have layers of depth, theme, artistic ingenuity, and historical significance. Part one of this series covers a brief history of the picturebook, its cultural capital, and an introduction to children’s literature as a discipline. The second session builds upon the first, and introduces analysis and evaluation of picturebooks. Both sessions will include examples and examinations of a variety of picturebooks and styles. Any and all adults are welcome to attend! Light refreshments will be served.
