Program Description

Description

Award-winning sculptor Meredith Bergmann will show images of work from her 40-year career as a sculptor who seeks out public commissions that explore issues of history, race, human rights, disabilities, and the power of poetry and music. Bergmann will talk about her creative process, the research that inspires her to bring history to life, and some of the many issues involved with competing for commissions and making public monuments, including the Boston Women’s Memorial, the September 11th Memorial for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and the FDR Hope Memorial in New York City, and The Elizabeth Cady Stanton and The Susan B. Anthony Woman Suffrage Movement Monument in New York City's Central Park. She will also share stories about what inspires her smaller and more personal sculptures. Meredith Bergmann ‘s public and personal sculptures deal with complex themes in an accessible, beautiful and stimulating way.

This series of lectures, films, and workshops focuses on art, architecture, and design is dedicated to exploring the creative process. ARTalks is co-sponsored by the Ridgefield Library and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists.
