An Evening with the Youth and Adult Poets Laureate of Connecticut

Join us for a virtual reading and talkback with Connecticut State Poet Laureate Antoinette Brim-Bell and Connecticut 2023-24 Youth Poet Laureate Mercuri Lam. The two honored poets will read from recent works, share hopes for their roles as laureates, and answer questions from the audience – and each other.

Antoinette Brim-Bell is the author of These Women You Gave MeIcarus in Love, and Psalm of the Sunflower. She is a Cave Canem Foundation fellow, a recipient of the Walker Foundation Scholarship, and a Pushcart Prize nominee. Her work has appeared widely in literary journals and anthologies. A sought-after speaker, editor, educator, and consultant, Brim-Bell is a Professor of English at Capital Community College. 

Mercuri Lam was appointed CT Youth Poet Laureate in May 2023. A senior at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Mercuri will attend Yale this fall. She is the author of BLOODPATHS (Kith Books, 2023), and her work has been recognized by the Pulitzer Center, Foyle Young Poets, Smith College, and others. An advocate for AAPI artist and writers, she is an immigrant from China, the daughter of Chinese and Vietnamese bloodlines.
