Description
King Tutankhamun was a pharaoh who ruled Egypt from 1332 to 1323 BCE. He was only eight or nine years old when he ascended to the throne, and died at eighteen or nineteen.
Why is this King so well-known across the world? When archaeologist Howard Carter and his expedition discovered the tomb and mummy in 1922, experts quickly realized that this represented a wealth of insights into the history of ancient Egypt. Although it had clearly been raided and robbed in ancient times, it retained much of its original contents, including the king's undisturbed mummy. The discovery received worldwide press coverage; with over 5,000 artifacts, it gave rise to renewed public interest in ancient Egypt, for which Tutankhamun's mask, preserved at the Egyptian Museum, remains a popular symbol.
Popular lecturer Toni McKeen will describe the thrilling discovery, as well as modern insights into the Boy King.
