Description

Plants, Pairings and Care Practices That Benefit People and Nature in Connecticut

Come explore how thoughtful plant choices can create gardens and landscapes that are not only beautiful and enjoyable, but also meaningful for the world around us. Hosted jointly by the Ridgefield Garden Club and Ridgefield Library, this program highlights the growing role home gardeners and landowners can play in supporting nature in Connecticut and across New England.

In this illustrated presentation, Jennifer Benner will introduce standout plants that do more than look good, along with plant pairings that work well together and support a wider range of life. The talk will also cover practical, environmentally friendly care practices that help gardens and landscapes thrive. Throughout the program, the focus stays on what gardeners value most—beauty, connection, enjoyment, and success—while showing how our cultivated spaces can also benefit birds, insects, and our greater regional landscapes.

Whether you garden in a backyard, around a home foundation, or in a small or expansive space, this presentation offers practical ideas, inspiration, and a hopeful message about the collective power of gardeners and landowners to make a difference, one plant at a time.

About the Program: All attendees are invited to enjoy a meet and greet with light refreshments at 9:30 a.m. The one-hour presentation will be begin at 10 a.m., followed by a Q & A. Join us and bring your curiosity, passion for learning, and questions.
