Program Description
Description
Immediately following the artist's talk by Phil Demise Smith about his "Follow the Brush" exhibition, Smith will meet and greet audience members and members of the public in the Library's Lower Level gallery. Attendees at the artist's reception will take a look at Smith's paintings that are informed by a form of Zuihitzu - which has poetically been defined as "text that can drift like a cloud," or as "running brush," or "follow the brush." This expressive way of painting has no central point, but rather has many parts that interact with each other. His colorful, jewel-toned paintings mirror what Smith says is his "train of thought" which presents form and color "all at once," "going in all directions," "presenting the past, present, and the future simultaneously - all at one time."
