Program Description

Description

Frances Palmer is an American ceramicist,  photographer and gardener. She is known for her ceramics and her photography of flower arrangements.

"Life in the Studio" is as beautiful and unexpected as Palmer’s pottery, as breathtakingly colorful as her celebrated dahlias, as intimate as the dinners she hosts in her studio for friends and family. There are insights into making pots—the importance of centering, the discovery that clay has a memory. Strategies for how to turn a passion into a business—the value to be found in collaboration, what it means to persevere, how to develop and stick to a routine that will sustain both enthusiasm and productivity.

Palmer’s work is represented in leading private craft and contemporary art collections around the world and has been exhibited and sold internationally including at Fotografiska, Neue Galerie, Object & Thing and Wave Hill. Palmer has been featured in publications such as House & Garden, Neptune Papers, Vogue and The World of Interiors.

Books on the Common will be selling copies of:

Life in the Studio: Inspiration and Lessons on Creativity &

Life with Flowers: Inspiration and Lessons from the Garden

This series of lectures, films, and workshops focuses on art, architecture, and design is dedicated to exploring the creative process. ARTalks is co-sponsored by the Ridgefield Library and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists.
