Program Description

Description

As a follow-up to the Library's ARTalk with the Hill-Stead Museum's Executive Director and CEO, Anna Swinbourne which took place on January 21, 2024, there will be an Art Trip to the Hill-Stead Museum and Gardens in Farmington, CT on Thursday, June 13. This tour is limited to 12 and is a free Library program. Please sign up quickly as space is limited.

Please factor in approximately one hour and twenty minutes traveling from Ridgefield to Farmingville, CT, traffic permitting.

Please arrive at the Hill-Stead Museum at 10:00 am - a half an hour before our guided tour of the house museum and gardens. There is plenty of parking space. The tour starts promptly at 10:30 and concludes around 12:00 pm. We will meet in the gift shop at the beginning and end of this tour.

This one and a half hour House and Garden Tour will cover the unique architecture of the Museum's 1901 Colonial Revival-Style House designed by groundbreaking female architect, Theodate Pope Riddle. It is home to some of the best impressionist art in the world with masterpieces by Monet, Manet, Degas and Cassatt. Members of this tour will also be able to see the Museum's magnificent gardens in bloom in June.

There will be time after the tour to spend more time in the gardens or visit the gift shop.

After the tour of the Hill-Stead Museum and Gardens, a 1:15 pm reservation for lunch is being held at the Fork and Fire Restaurant near the museum at 838 Farmington Avenue (tel. 860-255-7674). All are welcome to join "Dutch Treat" - each paying their own way for lunch.

We will leave the restaurant around 2:45 pm and be back to Ridgefield around 4:15 pm, traffic permitting.
