Program Description

Description

As the public becomes aware of the importance of native plants in keeping the ecological landscape healthy, we are also recognizing the impact of invasive plant species in degrading that goal. This webinar will focus on the reasons invasives interfere in the environment, methods of eradicating them, and an introduction to some of the most commonly seen invasive plants in Fairfield County.  Armed with that knowledge and using the resources of the Pollinator Pathway Northeast grassroots efforts, each resident can become a land steward by combatting the invasives on their own property, replanting with native species, and contributing to the defragmentation of our flora and fauna communities.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Algon

Having worked 42 years as a biologist and in information management and policy, in 2003 Jackie Algon retired from Merck & Co., Inc. and a few years later, from consulting.  After moving from NJ to Wilton CT she put away her degrees in Zoology, ESL Teaching and Information Management and became a certified Advanced Master Gardener, opening the miraculous world of botany to her awareness. From that start she has become an advocate for conservation, serving on the Wilton Conservation Commission, chairing the Wilton Tree Committee, co-chairing the Wilton Garden Club Conservation Committee, and helping establish the Pollinator Pathway Northeast.

This program is part of the Ridgefield Pollinator Pathway series presented by Ridgefield Library, The Norwalk River Watershed Association and the Ridgefield Pollinator Pathway.
