Program Description

Description

Split off from the Ridgefield Planning & Zoning Commission in 2019, the Inland Wetlands Board (IWB) is responsible to protect Town wetlands and watercourses to ensure an adequate supply of clean water, control flooding, and maintain habitat for animal, aquatic, and plant life. It reviews development proposals and issues permits for regulated activities (such as excavation, filling or removal of soil, dredging, or clear cutting) adjacent to or within designated wetlands, streams, and rivers. Susan Baker and Caleb Johnson will inform on how it guides residents and businesses to be in compliance with wetlands regulations.

Susan was elected to the IWB in 2019 and is currently the Chair. A resident since 1976, she has been active in environmental protection projects, such as the effort to save Bennett’s Pond from development, and was a long-time member of the Ridgefield Conservation Commission. Caleb is the Inland Wetlands Agent and Conservation Enforcement Officer for the Town of Ridgefield. Caleb has a bachelor's degree in Environmental Sustainability from the State University of New York at Oneonta.
