This Ridgefield Garden Club Open Meeting will feature an in-person presentation with Bill Lucey from Save the Sound. It is open to the public. The Garden Club meeting will begin at 1:00 - 1:30 pm with light refreshments. At 1:30 the President will welcome all attendees and give an award. Kitsey Snow with then introduce Mr. Lucey. Mr. Lucey's talk will begin at approximately 1:45 pm. He will speak for about 40 minutes and have a Q and A afterward for about 20 minutes. The room for this program is reserved until 3:30 pm.
Bill Lucey, Sound Keeper
As the Long Island Sound Keeper, Bill Lucey protects water quality and the fish and wildlife of the Long Island Sound to benefit both the people and the Sound itself.
Raised in Wilton, CT, Bill grew up exploring and fishing in the Long Island Sound before attending the University of Vermont. He went on to serve the Peace Corps in Guatemala and lived in Alaska for 20 years where he worked as a federal biologist, commercial salmon and halibut fisherman and as municipal biologist/coastal planner.
Prior to his return to CT, he was the project manager for the Kauai Invasive Species Committee with the University of Hawaii. Bill will be speaking about his efforts as Sound Keeper, the relationship between the inland waters that begin in Ridgefield and the Sound, and what we can do here in Ridgefield to improve water quality in the rivers and, ultimately, the Long Island Sound.
