Description

We are proud and delighted to celebrate the arrival of Ridgefield's own Poet Laureate's new book! Please join us to hear Barb Fulton Jennes read from Blinded Birds. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Blinded Birds traces the descent of three generations of women into depression, alcoholism, and addiction—predispositions that “tumble down generations / like a Slinky toy on the stairs.” But as the collection makes clear, there is the hope of recovery, despite the strong pull of genetics. Healing can be manifested through courage, determination, and the loving support of family.

A retired Ridgefield educator, Barb Jennes is Poet Laureate of Ridgefield (2020-2023), where she hosts intergenerational poetry workshops at the Ridgefield Library, the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, and several churches and schools. Her poems have appeared in Comstock Review, Tupelo Quarterly, The Night Heron Barks, Limp Wrist, SWIMM, Extreme Formal Sonnets II, and many other journals and anthologies. Blinded Birds was published this spring by Finishing Line Press.

The author has pledged to donate 15% of proceeds to the organization To Write Love on Her Arms, a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide.
