Program Description

Description

In this lecture, ArtScapades will look at how the sea has been depicted from 17th century realistic seascapes to 20th century abstract water views. Featured artists include JMW Turner, Friedrich Casper, Claude Monet, Gustave Caillebotte, Paul Signac, and Winslow Homer (pictured, On the Lee Side).

ArtScapades lectures look at the important artists of the period including background information on each artist’s life and work, characteristics of style, and the relationship of the artistic movements to historical and intellectual currents of the time.

Wine and cheese will be available.

Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, of ArtScapades, began teaching art appreciation in 1998. They have presented at libraries, art centers, and museums in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Florida.

This "Oceans of Possibility" Adult Summer Reading Program is made possible by the Friends of the Ridgefield Library.
