Program Description

Description

For this exhibition, artist Ellen Ross portrays flowers as symbols for many aspects of life. She is inspired to grow and tend them in her paintings. She photographs intimate garden spaces and well as public places to guide her own painting process. She sees flowers as symbols of life and growth. Structurally exquisite, with intricate design, she works with their vibrant colors and forms. Ross acknowledges that flowers are symbols to celebrate love, marriage, birthdays, holidays, end of life, and everyday pleasure. She sees flowers as a constant symbol of a continuing life cycle as we plant, nurture, grow, study, display and extract them into scents and medicines.
