COLLEGIATE POETS OF CT

Winners of the 2024 College Poetry Competition

Each year since 1968, the CT Poetry Circuit has enlisted a panel of prestigious poets to judge a statewide contest of college poets. Join us for an online reading featuring the five student-poets honored for 2023-24: Mia Alexander, August Bishop, Meagan CanavanAlexa Schwartz, and Sadie Zeiner-Morrish.

Mia Alexander is a sophomore at Wesleyan University, majoring in Film Studies and minoring in Data Analysis. She is the Poetry Editor of The Lavender, Wesleyan University’s literary magazine. Her hometown is Hoboken, NJ.

August Bishop is a junior at Quinnipiac University, where they major in English/Creative Writing/MAT program for Secondary Ed. in English. August is Editor-in-Chief of Quinnipiac’s literary magazine. Their hometown is Monroe, CT.

Meaghan Canavan, who majors in Professional writing, is a senior at WCSU. She received the Ronald K. Goodridge Award for an Outstanding Historically Based & Researched Essay or Short Story. Her hometown is Fishkill, NY.

Alexa Schwartz, a senior at the University of Hartford, was awarded third-place in the Phillis B. Abrahms Award in Drama for her ten-minute play, Daughterhood.  Alexa is an English major whose hometown is Farmingdale, NY.

Sadie Zeiner-Morrish, a Trinity sophomore and English/Creative Writing major, won the school’s First Year Papers prize and placed third in the John Curtis Underwood Memorial Prize in Poetry. Her hometown is Washington, NJ.
