Program Description

Description

Please join the Ridgefield Garden Club for our 2022 Conservation Meeting.  We will be focusing on the importance of including local native plants in our landscapes to heal our ailing ecosystem and the efforts underway with the Ecotype Project and the Eco59 Seed Collective to make these materials more readily available.

Sefra Alexandra, aka the "Seed Huntress", is on a quest to preserve biodiversity through the collection and propagation of local native seeds.  She has an MA in Agroecological Education from Cornell, founded the BOATanical Expeditions to promote backyard stewardship and leads The Ecotype Project for CT NOFA (Northeast Organic Farmers Association).

Dina Brewster is the owner of The Hickories organic farm and is dedicated to practicing conservation agriculture.  She was a high school English teacher in the Bronx before taking over the farm and is currently the Executive Director at CT NOFA, a farmer-led seed collective to make ecotype seed available locally.

Jean Linville has been a farmer with the Ecotype Project at The Hickories since its inception.  Additionally, she is a writer and visual artist with a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies. Jean is also a member of the Ridgefield Conservation Commission, the Caudatowa Garden Club and on the Board of the NRVT.   She is currently working with the Library on an exhibit, “Renovare la Terra March 19-April 22” , which will be virtual or in-person (TBD) on Sunday, March 20, 2-3pm.
