Program Description

Description

Ridgefield is joining over 1000 cities worldwide for a live, free musical celebration throughout the town and virtually from your own home. Come join the fun!  Unless noted, all Library events will be held outdoors on the Library Lawn and will be canceled in case of rain.

10:30AM -- Gazebo Grooves All Ages Storytime -- Families with children of all ages are invited to this energetic in-person storytime full of stories, songs, dancing, and grooving! (This program will take place in Ballard Park.)

11:00AM -- Brown Bag Karaoke -- Enjoy your lunch on the Library Lawn and join the karaoke fun! You're welcome to take a turn belting out your favorite song on our karaoke machine (hand sanitizer and disposable microphone covers will be available), or just relax as an appreciative member of the audience.

1:00PM -- Bang-a-Can Poetry Slam! --  Join Ridgefield Poet Laureate Barb Jennes and a host of sure-to-please poets who’ll compete for your approval, expressed by banging on a can, a drum, a chair arm, a tree trunk—whatever object you have on hand at this Make Music Day Celebration!  We’ll supply the drumsticks and the poetry—you supply the rhythm and joy. (P.S. Poets of all ages are invited to read a family-friendly poem in front of our appreciative, supportive audience. Please email barbjennes@gmail.com to register, and we’ll add you to our roster of Bang-a-Can poets! PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED!)

2:00PM -- Get It Loud In Libraries! -- Online global premiere of "Get It Loud In Libraries!" Watch this short documentary film on the Ridgefield Library's social media channels. Over the years, Get It Loud in Libraries has championed libraries as spaces for live music, as important cultural venues and as key parts of their communities and this film is a celebration of all of this. Performers have included Adele, Florence + The Machine, Jessie J, Ellie Goulding and more.

3:00PM -- Family Singalong -- Join Ridgefield Library’s own Trevor Gladwin and Barrett Jones in a family singalong of classic country songs to celebrate Make Music Day. We’ll sing selections from the American songbook, from the Carter Family to the Grateful Dead and everything in between. We’ll provide you with lyric sheets. Just bring your voice and your ears. Come experience an old fashioned family singalong on the lawn of the beautiful Ridgefield Library in the heart of downtown Ridgefield.

4:15PM -- Macklin Burke -- Macklin Burke is a rising singer-songwriter musician who is 12-years-old. During the pandemic Mack, who is a self-taught piano player, finally took virtual lessons with an accomplished pianist in Maine and the result was Mack writing, composing and recording his first original song. He released the song and video just before the holidays in 2020 with much local success.

5:00PM -- The Ridgefield High School Chamber Orchestra -- Enjoy beautiful classical pieces performed by this outstanding student group.
