New York poet, activist and Baldwin scholar, JP Howard, will give a discussion and overview on multi-genre writer, activist and brilliant essayist, James Baldwin. Baldwin’s words remain relevant and necessary in 2020. Howard’s talk will connect Baldwin’s writings to many current day activist movements. There will be a brief Q & A and community discussion after.
JP Howard is a poet, educator, literary activist, curator and community builder. Her debut poetry collection, SAY/MIRROR, was a Lambda Literary finalist. She is also the author of bury your love poems here (Belladonna*) and co-edited Sinister Wisdom Journal Black Lesbians--We Are the Revolution! JP has received fellowships and grants from Cave Canem, VONA, Lambda Literary and Brooklyn Arts Council. She curates Women Writers in Bloom Poetry Salon, a NY-based monthly literary series, which is open to all writers. Her poetry is widely anthologized. JP has facilitated community discussions, writing workshops and lectures on James Baldwin for Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn Community Pride Center, The Hobart Festival of Women Writers, and in collaboration with Apogee Journal and New York Writers Coalition’s Writing Resistance Series. http://www.jp-howard.com
