Program Description

Description

Come join us for a fascinating presentation about the native cultures that call the Arctic their home. The program will introduce their traditional lifestyles, folklore, mythology, animal husbandry, traditional dwellings and clothing, as well as their most ingenious tools! Time-permitting, the talk may also cover Inuit games and the impressive "don't try these at home" World Eskimo Winter Olympics!

Moki Kokoris - a respected expert on all things Arctic, and long-time environmental advocate, Moki is the first Ukrainian woman to reach the Geographic North Pole (14th woman overall). In addition to being the founder of 90-north (Arctic-focused outreach education program series), she is the Editor of The Polar Times (journal of the American Polar Society) and a United Nations NGO representative focusing on the impacts of climate and societal change on the indigenous peoples of the Circumpolar North. Moki is also a freelance artist, calligrapher, and instructor at Founders Hall and other venues in our area.
