Look and it’s Gone: The Tenuous Reality of Things

How does knowledge about quantum theory and psychic phenomena affect our understanding of our world? Both are mysterious; and both are topics of serious research. Both tell us that our world is much wilder than what we imagine. And, both have surprising connections to consciousness. This talk is an exploration into the microscopic world as well as the world of human experience and how they both link together in a surprising way.

One of the delights of discovery is making sense of our world. But what if we discover that, like Alice peering in the looking glass, we’re forced to believe impossible things? Peter Bancel will take us on a tour of three discoveries that upend what we believe about our world. Like Alice’s adventures, these discoveries confront science – and ourselves – with surprises that baffle and seem impossible.
