Program Description

Description

Come learn about the importance of our local freshwater streams and the critters that call them home! Presenters from Woodcock Nature Center and the Ridgefield Conservation Commission will talk about stream ecology and health, as well as share what the Conservation Commission is doing to monitor these habitats in our local preserves.

Woodcock and the RCC have been collaborating to lead guided walks at local preserves, and an upcoming walk on March 2nd will offer a chance to take the knowledge gained from this presentation a step further by exploring a freshwater stream and discovering its inhabitants first-hand.

Tommy McCarthy is an Environmental Educator at Woodcock Nature Center. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from Evergreen State College in Washington State. Ridgefield’s beautiful nature preserves played a large role in the development of Tommy’s interests in science and the environment, and he is an enthusiast when it comes to exploring nature and watching wildlife.

Roberta Barbieri has 30 years of experience in corporate environmental sustainability and is currently Vice President of Global Sustainability for PepsiCo. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Conservation from the University of New Hampshire and two Master’s degrees, both from the University of New Haven, in Environmental Engineering and in Environmental Science. Roberta is an avid hiker and gardener and currently serves on the Ridgefield Conservation Commission and on the Board of Directors for the Woodcock Nature Center.
