A Contrarian Collection: Works from The William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation with Curator Christina Kee, Sunday, February 9 @ 2 pm | Main Program Room
Curator Christina Kee will focus her ARTalk on William Louis-Dreyfus (1932–2016) and his art collection. Louis-Dreyfus was a poet, businessman and committed art collector who amassed close to 3,000 artworks representing over 50 years of discovery and dedication. Driven by curiosity and an open mind, Louis-Dreyfus built an eclectic collection that defies easy categorization. Kee’s ARTalk will provide an overview of the collection and highlight some of the exceptional artists on view. Contemporary representational artists include Catherine Murphy and Graham Nickson. American masters such as Bill Traylor and Nellie Mae Rowe are also in the collection. The collection is housed in a museum-quality gallery in Mount Kisco, NY. Kee has been with the Foundation since 2011.
Of this collection actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus had said: “My father was never shy about what he believed in, and, more than anything, he believed in art and justice. That he has found this way to marry those two beliefs is a sweet miracle for him.”
