Description

This exhibit is titled “I Am the Problem,” which represents over a decade of drawings and paintings by Edward Burke, is driven by the impact of environmental issues. Through beautiful large-scale paintings to delicately rendered drawings, this exhibition, “I am the Problem” is intended to broaden community awareness of how pollution is having an increasing impact on social, economic, and health issues to world populations and local communities.

"I Am the Problem" is meant to encourage individual viewers to take steps toward addressing the ever-increasing threat to life on earth from air, land, and sea pollution ranging from honey bee colony collapse disorder, to increasing carbon dioxide in the air we breathe, to massive plastic waste in our environment, and to the health dilemma we face from our manufacturing processes.

Edward Burke established his reputation as a representational and abstract painter in the 1980’s, in and around northern Westchester New York. He has had a long career as a painter and teacher, while earning his living as a graphic designer. Burke attended The High School of Art & Design in Manhattan and then studied at the School of Visual Arts while working as a full-time commercial artist in small advertising agencies around New York City. He launched his first graphics design business in the late 1960’s called Creative Publishing Concepts located in Manhattan.

As a graphic designer Burke continued to develop his drawing and painting expertise--obtaining commissions, having paintings exhibited, and winning awards as an art director. One his most rewarding painting experiences was a commission in 2005 to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. His original painting "Play Ignorant" was auctioned in New Orleans, the auction price and the sales of prints were donated to the Habitat for Humanity/New Orleans to build a home in the Musician’s Village. 'It was a great privilege to be part of this effort."
