Program Description

Description

Join us for a bus trip for a guided tour to see the Maurice Sendak Collection at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. The bus will leave the Library parking lot at 8:30 AM on Friday, September 27 and return to the Library around 4:30 PM (depending on traffic).

Clara Nguyen, project archivist for the Maurice Sendak Collection at the University of Connecticut will give a private tour of selected materials from the Collection. This first-hand look at Sendak's artwork is not to be missed! Nguyen will show preliminary sketches, dummy books, and final drawings and discuss Maurice Sendak’s artistic treatment of his characters and the worlds in which he imagined them and consequently, the impact he sent reverberating through the world of children’s literature.

The group will be divided into two. The first tour of the Collection will take place at 11:00 AM and the second tour will begin at 12:15 PM. The bus will leave UCONN at 2 PM.

The fee for the trip is $20. Please bring a bag lunch or you can purchase lunch on the UCONN campus.

This program is part of the Library's  The Illustrative World of Maurice Sendak: Let the Wild Rumpus Begin! series, an all ages celebration of Maurice Sendak's artistic and literary legacy taking place this fall. The series is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Library.
