This day celebrates the opening reception for H. Lloyd Weston's painting exhibition titled: Color, Concept Creativity: The H. Lloyd Weston Retrospective Art Exhibition. Weston is a internationally known Jamaican-born artist and his work is in significant private collections in New York, Rome, Tokyo, London and Paris. This exhibition chronicles a large body of his artwork from 1989 to 2019.

The Library is pleased to exhibit Weston's paintings which display a luminous palette and often have an affinity with nature. Weston is a strong colorist who conveys warmth and dynamism in his landscapes and abstract paintings. Often using bold brush strokes, his work is linked to the Impressionist and European Expressionist masters. Of his work, Weston states: "My objective is to create landscapes with a sense of beauty and immediacy, with the hope that the viewer can imagine themselves within a particular setting."

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, Weston studied art in his home county, at the New York City Arts Student League and in Europe. He has had multiple group and solo shows and was also invited to join the prestigious National Arts Club in New York. He was commissioned by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother to paint "The Ship T. S. Arethusa" and was received by her at a special celebration in London in 1989.

This exhibition is a unique retrospective which exhibits a wide range of Weston's compositions and and painting styles over his career as an artist. Mr. Weston is also a writer. Weston, now of Danbury, CT, lived previously in Ridgefield for thirty years.
