Program Description

Description

Join us for a screening of the PBS documentary American Creed followed by a community conversation facilitated by Professor Dr. Leslie Lindenauer on what does it mean to be American?

In the PBS documentary American Creed, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David M. Kennedy come together from different points of view to explore the idea of a unifying American creed. Their spirited inquiry frames the stories of citizen-activists striving to realize their own visions of America’s promise across deep divides.

The program is also part of American Creed: Community Conversations, a project of Citizen Film in partnership with the American Library Association and the National Writing Project, with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Leslie Lindenauer is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and Non-Western Cultures at Western Connecticut State University. Her fields of specialization include early American history, women’s history, and public history. Dr. Lindenauer holds an A.B. in History from Brown University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in American History from New York University.
